Fluorination (Flolo)

What’s Flolo Barrier?

Structure

Cautions for use

Please wash the product with lukewarm water or a mild cleaning solution before use. When cleaning, please refrain from using brushes or abrasive cleansers, as they may damage the surface of the container.

Features

The surface layer of the container (fluoro-barrier layer), which is the part that comes in contact with liquid, is made of fluorinated polyethylene, which has excellent gas barrier properties and chemical resistance. In particular, the resistance to organic solvents is enhanced.

Because fluorine is chemically bonded to the surface, the fluorinated surface layer has a permanent effect. However, if the surface layer is damaged or scraped, the polyethylene of the base material will be exposed on the surface layer, and the fluorination treatment will lose its effect.

Since the base material part of the container is polyethylene, we can provide reasonable and lightweight containers.

The lot number of the fluorination treatment is written on the bottom of the bottle to control the production.

Test on Gas Barrier Properties of Fluorobarrier PE Containers against Organic Solvents

One of the features of fluorobarrier PE containers is their improved gas barrier properties against organic solvents. The graph below shows the experimental results of gas barrier properties against toluene, n-hexane, chlorobenzene, and carbon tetrachloride. All of the results were highly effective, proving the excellent gas barrier properties of Fluorobarrier PE containers.

Test Methods

Put 200ml of organic solvent in each 1L of Sanplatec Fluorobarrier PE bottle (wide mouth) and 1L of general PE wide mouth bottle, cap and seal.

Allow the sealed bottle to sit at room temperature for 30 days.

During the resting period, the weight of the organic solvent was periodically measured and plotted on a graph as the rate of weight loss.

Test Results

In the case of PE wide-mouth bottles, the weight of the solvent decreases over time as the organic solvent inside the container evaporates and leaves the container wall. In contrast, the Fluoro-barrier PE bottle showed less than 1% leakage for all four solvents, confirming its extremely high gas barrier function.

Chemical Resistance Measurement of Fluorinated Polyethylene

Measurement Method

The fluorinated cap was immersed in the chemical for 7 days at room temperature, and the weight change was measured after removal.
